Sustainability Initiatives
Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club and Pico Sands Hotel
Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club and Pico Sands Hotel are fully committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility as we continue to make significant changes to promote eco-friendly practices throughout our properties.
The integration of sustainability initiatives is a top priority and we have successfully implemented various programs through the seven Green Goals which covers Consumption, Diversion, Energy, Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG), Sustainable Tourism, Water, Diversity and Equal Opportunity which are evident in the property including MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events) events.
Consumption
- Implementation of Sustainable Diner which successfully addressed food waste management to 57% lower from baseline data in 2019.
- Plastic refusal program which is the replacement of all single-use plastics in hotel operations which decreased usage from 72% to 55% in 2019.
Diversion
- Green Restoration Program which is a recycling program for solid waste was able to achieve 75% plastic recycling and 23% for paper recycling.
- The Giving Garden Program where most of the food waste are composted and used in the organic herb and vegetable garden
- Launch TelaTales, in partnership with Barangay Bulihan and Bulihan Elementary School, which aims to repurpose preloved clothes and discarded hotel linen.
Energy
- Conversion of light bulbs to LED in Pico Sands Hotel which resulted to a 33% reduction of electricity consumption per cover (kWh/cover) and 2% reduction in electricity consumption per sqm (kWh/sqm), both from baseline data in 2019.
- Conversion of light bulbs to LED in Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club which resulted to a 77% reduction of electricity consumption per cover (kWh/cover) and 6% reduction in electricity consumption per sqm (kWh/sqm), both from baseline data in 2019.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG)
- Completion of trainings of Pico Sands Hotel and Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club engineering teams on the resource efficiency tool developed by the UNEP.
- In Pico Sands Hotel, the GHG emission per cover (TonsCO2e/cover) has a total of 8% reduction from baseline data in 2019 while the GHG emission per area (TonsCO2e/sqm) has a total of 136% reduction from baseline data in 2019.
- In Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club, the GHG emission per cover (TonsCO2e/cover) has a total of 75% reduction from baseline data in 2019 while the GHG emission per area (TonsCO2e/sqm) has a total of 103% reduction from baseline data in 2019.
Sustainable Tourism
- Through the Green Procurement Program, a total of 97 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were supported by both Pico Sands Hotel and Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club.
- Pico Restaurant and Sun Coral Cafe are National Ecolabelling Programme – Green Choice Philippines (NELP-GCP) certified, wherein 47% of its ala carte menus are locally-sourced.
- We are recognized by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) because of our eco programs and long-term partnerships.
- Workforce of Pico Sands Hotel is composed of 86% local hires while 92% for Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club.
Water
- Pico Sands Hotel recycles 63% effluent water and 37% for and Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club for use in operations.
Diversity and Equal Opportunity
- Women executives comprise 50% of the workforce.
- There are 30% women in male-dominated departments.
